The fair was expanded to include Mason and Jefferson counties in the 1970's. At that time engineering was added and the name was changed to reflect that fact.
In 1984 the Fair became the Western Washington Science and Engineering Fair and was opened to all students located within that geographical area.
During the decade of the 1980's the decision was made to affiliate with the International Science and Engineering Fair and was expanded to become the Washington State Science and Engineering Fair with students from all over the State participating.
Beginning in 1985, each year two students from the fair have represented Washington State at the International Science and Engineering Fair.
The Washington State Science and Engineering Fair is a non-profit organization and is funded solely by contributions and staffed by volunteers.
During 2005, due to the number of requests we were receiving from various entities asking that the WSSEF site include a link to their site, the WSSEF Board of Directors established an editorial policy for the WSSEF web site. This measure, designed to protect students and other visitors to our site, limits the content of any site to which we might link to be non-commercial in nature (pop-up ads and similar annoyances may be construed as commercial activity under this policy) with contents and spirit appropriate to the scope and nature of the WSSEF as determined by the board of directors. The links to our sponsors are exempted from the restrictions of being non-commercial so long as the content on the sponsor's site is appropriate to all age groups and would not, in some way, reflect badly on the WSSEF.
The WSSEF is not responsible for the content of any site linked to from our site.
We hope you like the new site and find it useful and informative. Please direct any comments, questions, or suggestions regarding this site to webmaster@wssef.org.
The site undergoes semi-regular updates to reflect any changes or new information. We appreciate your patience when we encounter delays. Please understand that our entire web staff is populated with volunteers.
The site was written in HTML using Microsoft® Wordpad® with no scripts to provide the safest web experience possible (we did use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) with apologies to those whose browsers do not fully support this).
